Hamsteriens, hamesteriennes. Du bas fond des catacombes, je vous présente Ratty, le petit rat perdu.
From the depth of the catacombs, here comes Ratty, the little lost rat.
My first entry in the foray of Hamster challenges. I didn't want to at first, but gave it a go... and sniff... got hooked. It's old school, it's ugly... it's Ratty!

Glad to join the party!

Vun! I played your game. Quite interesting actually. Its also good to know that we will have a submission for this week, since I failed miserably at the challenge for this week . Let see what the judge thinks!

 Re: WEEKLY CHALLENGE: 2010-01-11
Ok people, here it is! The review for Ratty! Ratty | Criteria | Score | Comments | | Theme (5) | 5 | There's a rat digging tunnels! Full points! | | Controls (1) | 0.75 | I'm not sure why, but the little rat seemed to be a little non-responsive on occasion. Maybe I was pushing buttons too quickly? Maybe the rat just didn't care? Either way, knocking a few points off. | | Graphics (1) | 0.5 | There were graphics, in a way. The graphics did their job, but didn't make the game pretty to look at. Ok, I have a bias against old school. | | Sound (1) | 0.75 | Good selection on the music. | | Fun (2) | 1 | Ok, maybe I'm being a LITTLE harsh on this one, but the fact that I kept losing my rat in the tunnel really annoyed me, even if the instructions DID state that this was for reasons of "adding to the complexity of the puzzle". | | Bonus (0.5) | 0.5 | Ahahahahaha. Ok, so cave-ins WERE included in the game, according to the instructions. Though we saw no evidence of them. I'll be generous, and go with half points. | | Total (10) | 8.5 | I think this is an excellent first attempt, and looking forward to more! |
So, some of you may think this review was MUCH harsher than in the past. Well, that would be accurate. And future reviews will be EVEN HARSHER!! I came to the realization that giving full points for each item just because it was present meant everyone would always have the highest score possible. Now, while this WOULD be nice, it doesn't really create a competitive atmosphere. I'll be looking at how well elements come out, and how well they fit in a given game. I would like to add that Vun is the UNCONTESTED WINNER THIS WEEK!! WOOO!!!

Well if this was harsh... I'm really happy for my 8.5 I had issues with the control and made way with gameplay... but it was a good introduction for me... just hope I can cope with the WEEK ratio... 2 weeks could be better since I seemed to be the only one that did something? HuG Guyz!! Looking forward for the next one!

 Re: WEEKLY CHALLENGE: 2010-01-11
Well, actually, your game will push me to redesign the whole grading system. I'm thinking the score was a little on the high side, but hey, that's how the system works. I mean, I gave myself a 9.75 last week for my cannon game, which was missing some key elements. So yeah, for the next challenge, the scoring system will be reviewed, and posted in the rules section before (if?) the next challenge is announced. We should have an update soon.

Congrats Vun on your first win See, every participants win on their first week! Ok, i've updated the leaderboard: http://www.hamster-studios.com/?page_id=465And yes, I do think that Jayce score for last week was WAY too high. He needs to do another weekly so we can bring down his score

 Re: WEEKLY CHALLENGE: 2010-01-11
Well everyone, As clearly stated in the rules, the Hamster Studio Dev Team (Simon) is OBLIGED to produce a game, or face some kind of penalty. Any suggestions?

I don't like this rule...
But, seriously, I can't possibly participate all the time. Ill try my best but its not realistic.
